Power Out? Emergency Electrician Help in Easton, MD & the Mid-Shore
Whole house or part of it without power: first find out whether it is the utility or your home.
Power out / emergency
What usually goes wrong
Look outside first. If your neighbors are dark too, it is a utility outage. Report it to your utility, whether that is Easton Utilities, Delmarva Power or Choptank Electric Cooperative, and wait for them. If only your home is out, or half the house works and half does not, the problem may be at your panel, meter or service connection, and that is a call for an electrician.
Stay away from downed lines and keep kids and pets back. Treat every fallen wire as live and call the utility or 911. If water has reached outlets or the panel, do not touch anything until the power is off.
Run portable generators outdoors, away from doors and windows, and never plug one into a wall outlet. Ask about after-hours fees before anyone comes out; availability depends on the provider and on how widespread the storm was.
